Holga/ Diana Workshop

I have been yearning to do some sort of photography course for a while now, the searching (and yearning) is now over.
I had my first class yesterday. I am so glad I enrolled I absolutely love it. I’m doing a Holga & Diana workshop at the Blender Gallery/ Just Shoot Lomography Shop with Tim Hixson. It makes it even more awesome because its all about the Holga (and Diana) and lomography!

Our classroom was in the backyard of the Just Shoot Shop/ Blender Gallery, there are only seven people in our class and I love it because it is so cosy and such a warm and lovely environment to learn in. Everyone is relatively new to the Holga camera, however they are very much in love with what it can do and the whimsical photos it can produce.
Tim is an awesome teacher (he looks like Donnie’s father, in the film Donnie Darko). Tim gave us a run down on the camera and the various modifications he made to his cameras. You can see and feel his passion when he speaks about the Holga, his work and other photographers work (there was a Holga/ Diana exhibition in Blender Gallery, and we went around analyzing the work). One of our classmates, Andy, took that class for the second time around. He also had a few of his photographs exhibited in the gallery. He sold his first photograph whilst we were in lecture mode, how awesome! I think we were more excited than he was!! Haha.
I left that class not wanting it to end. So I can’t wait till next Saturday when we go to Tim’s studio.

Oh, I saw Orlando Bloom and Miranda Kerr. As I was waiting (with 2 other students) outside the Just shoot Lomography store, A Lexus was parking a couple of meters away from us. Then Orlando stepped out, then Miranda got out of the car (she was parking). I later found out they came into the store whilst we were in the backyard learning.

Meanwhile, I’ll leave you with a few pics from Friday night when I went to Space with Luke because he was DJing. My night as a roadie…. As AJ would say “bag bitch”.

"Let's get physical... physical"

Back in the day running laps around the athletic track or around the block was a piece of cake. Now, walking up a flight of stairs leaves me in a wheezing and gasping for air state. I am officially unfit.

During primary and high school I was the sportiest child alive, come to think of it I was actually Sports Captain in primary school… haha lame… anyway. The main sports I played were athletics and netball. I remember attending training sessions every week for about an hour or more.… ‘round robin’ sort of training… 100 push ups, sit- ups and squats, laps around the block, throwing heavy medicine balls etc.

Fast forward to the present….I had my first fitness session yesterday afternoon with Tim (he is a personal trainer now). I have seriously not played sport or have gone to the gym (heck I never go to the gym) in 7 years.
So just imagine, me trying to get back in the sporty swing of things….there was a lot of complaining on my part “no… no more!” or “no..no…. I ccaaaannn’t” … it was quite funny because I couldn’t take Tim seriously, and he was doing a half-arsed job because it was I that he was training and not one of his clients (so there was a lot of laughing) However, I am in pain… not working out in a LONG time makes your muscles hurt. I ‘felt the burn’ and now my back, arse and stomach are aching.
The only parts of my body that I intend on working out is my legs (coz my knees are weak from skateboarding knee sprains) and posture (because I am the next hunchback of Notre Dame). But you wont see me running laps ‘round Mounty County because (I’ll get rolled) I reckon if I run long enough and too often I’ll look emaciated (high school styles!).

Nine words women use...

My friend emailed this to me.... funny yet true...

1.) Fine : This is the word women use to end an argument when they are
right and you need to shut up.

2.) Five Minutes : If she is getting dressed, this means a half an hour.
Five minutes is only five minutes if you have just been given five more
minutes to watch the game before helping around the house.

3.) Nothing : This is the calm before the storm. This means something
and you should be on your toes. Arguments that begin with nothing usually
end in fine.

4.) Go Ahead : This is a dare, not permission. Don't Do It!

5.) Loud Sigh : This is actually a word, but is a non-verbal statement
often misunderstood by men. A loud sigh means she thinks you are an idiot
and wonders why she is wasting her time standing here and
arguing with you about nothing. (Refer back to #3 for the meaning of
nothing.)

6.) That's Okay : This is one of the most dangerous statements a women
can make to a man. That's okay means she wants to think long and hard before
deciding how and when you will pay for your mistake.

7.) Thanks : A woman is thanking you, do not question, or faint. Just
say
you're welcome.

8.) Whatever : Is a women's way of saying F@!K YOU!

9.) Don't worry about it, I got it: Another dangerous statement, meaning
this is something that a woman has told a man to do several times, but is
now doing it herself. This will later result in a man asking 'What's wrong?'
For the woman's response refer to #3.

"NEW YORK (Reuters Life!) - Got a passion for buying sneakers? It could be a good sign, with a poll finding that people who buy three pairs of sneakers or more a year are far more likely to be a leadership type that other people.
Mindset Media, a media company that examines personality traits of different consumers, found that people who buy more than three pairs of sneakers a year are 61 percent more likely to have the qualities of a modern leader.
These qualities were defined as having ideas and vision, and a style with others that is both inclusive and decisive.
The survey of 7,500 people, using market research group Nielsen's online panel, found multi-sneaker buyers were 50 percent more likely to be very assertive and 47 percent more likely to be spontaneous.
Lauren Arvonio, a spokeswoman for Mindset Media, said sneaker buyers were more likely to fly by the seat of their pants.
"It is often said you can tell a lot about a person by the shoes they wear, and now we have some hard data to back that up," Arvonio told Reuters.
"What is interesting is that these personality traits held true across the board, regardless of age, income, or gender."
Previous Mindset Media surveys found that people who pay their credit card bills off each month were more likely to be "highly deliberate," thinking through their actions, but also less modest than others, likely to brag about their habits.
Hybrid car owners were found to be 78 percent more likely to be highly creative than other people and less dogmatic."

We went out last night for Rey's birthday..... I forgot how fun bowling can be... we ended the night at Bamboo, my first time..... two words... interestingly fun. I guess it had to do with the people I was with..... it's all about the company!!!!

So what happened after GK???

BORACAY…yet again….

A couple of friends and I went to Boracay for a few days. We stayed at our friend’s auntie’s house. Her house was absolutely amazing. It was this white three storey home, with a gorgeous view of the beach. I have never entered a beach house quite like this one.

As we were driving up the street we were admiring the big beautiful beach houses. And when the car pulled in we didn’t realise we would stay in one of them. Our reactions were “omigosh…ARE YOU SERIOUS!!!!” we were in complete awe of the place.

Later, we met with Leonard, Luke and Damian. We went to Cocamangas…. A lot of drinks…camera lights flashing…the DJ….. The psycho stalker… the Jap boy with the hat I wanted to steal….. And Leonard getting his groove on… that place was funny!!!

Bora consisted of chilling on the beach… happy hour…swimming…and drinking the most delicious shakes at Jonah’s…. I never knew how awesome banana and melon shakes were…thank you Jonah!!! I will try and concoct my own version!!! Let’s hope I’m successful!!!

Boracay has changed A LOT in a span of a year…. It is completely bustling with tourists. It’s not the calm Bora I remember. There are new hotels… new developments…new restaurants…new markets… it’s amazing how things can change in a year…. Despite all the modifications… it is still a beautiful place.... Nothing beats a Bora sunset…everything turns golden.. The sky transforms into a burst of pink, red and gold extravaganza… everyone rushes to the beach with their cameras to take a photo of the picture perfect sky….the sail boats glide carelessly through the water…unaware of the beauty that is behind it…. Couples kiss and cuddle and take pictures of themselves…later to return to those photos and reminisce.

I bet that beach has seen a lot of break-ups, make-ups, throw ups, proposals, fights and weddings…. if only that beach could talk....

MANILA

There were days when we visited our very big family… they always seem to amuse me. Especially my little cousins and my nieces and nephews… they are such little characters…full of energy and imagination. I loved how my niece would say “I want a Honda Civic…. My boyfriend is Sam Milby and we are going to get married” My niece, Kyla, is on 5 years old. She has such a big personality for such a tiny girl… she is cute as a button… and the leader of the pack…. Ah bless.

We were able to stay in the CBD. A walk away from Greenbelt which was great! The places I wanted to go were walking distance or a 10 minute cab drive….

Tim ended up surprising me; he came to the Philippines with Jr. He was only there for 1 week! But it was a good week. I was sitting in Max Brenner with a few friends waiting for my sister and Jr to arrive…. And then 10 or 15 minutes later Tim came in…My face lit up with surprise and excitement… I ran and jumped on him… I think a few patrons thought I was on crack or something…hahaha…

They funny thing was I had a feeling he was going to fly up to PI. When Jr and Mara entered Max B… I kept on looking at the entrance of to see if Tim was directly behind them… but he wasn’t …so I thought damn… he is not coming…. But in the end he was there in the flesh…. Wearing that blue flannel shirt and those Nudie jeans that hasn't been washed in AGES!!!….

We got to meet up with the lovely Vicky H again…..Vicky, thankyou so much for taking care of us!!! We all really appreciate your hospitality!!
I enjoyed our hangouts, Embassy nights and our Coffee Bean chats :) That store we stumbled across in Greenbelt 5 was awesome!!! I hope that motherf*cker who crashed into us pays for damages and gets really really bad KARMA!!!!

There were a few days where I was by myself because the GK Australia kids and Tim left for Sydney, Mara and Jr were in and out of PI.
This really tested my ability to explore new surroundings and tested my sanity!! There were instances where I really felt lonely and it didn’t help that I was sick either! I already visited the places that intrigued me…so there were a lot of “hhmm what should I do” type of moments… Manila is not a familiar city to me [but will be soon:)] and there were times where I felt I had no sense of direction. It’s really strange experiencing that feeling of loneliness... walking the streets and feeling sort of empty…the funny thing was I didn’t miss home, every time I travel somewhere I never get homesick… but I think I missed having the company of another person… having a normal conversation, and not having a conversation with myself 24/7… however, in these moments I was able to reflect, reflect on my current situation; especially the reality that was waiting for me back in Sydney. I did a lot of writing, and a lot of book buying… I think Power Books and National Book Store made their budget for the month!!! Haha. Alas, I’m glad I went through that, even though it was quite depressing. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger right?
