Adieu 2011

Berlin
Image shot by me,  Berlin 2010.

The folks of Sydney are getting ready for NYE festivities, while I sit here and reflect on the year that will soon be behind us.

It was a so so year for me. That saw a lot of my old flat mates from London move back to Sydney. A welcome relief as we remenisce a lot about the past.  Re-adjusting to life was hard as I would go off to oh so vivd reveries of 2009 and 2010. Spending pretty much every day with my best friend Anna, was the best thing on earth. We concocted new projects to pursue which will hopefully take off in 2012, God willing. Seeing a cherished friend V, always awakens my soul. Her ability to inspire people is out of this world. Growth in all sense of the word is something I always learn from her.

So growth will be my theme for 2012.

2011, I bid you Adieu.

Pop Your Collar

Peter Pan collars are my favourite, because it reminds me of little girl dresses I use to wear when I was a wee child, heck I still wear them now. My style is dictated by my mood, sometimes I'll walk out looking like a 5 year old child or a 70s rock and roll groupie wannabe or a hobo.

My mother gave me (I actually stole it) a white lace cotton bib shirt she has had since she was 17. She told me she use to wear it when she was pregnant with my sister and I. The bib part looks like a massive collar gone wrong, but I love it anyway. I rarely wear it, as it is quite delicate and the bib lace is fraying a little at the seams. And I'm also a total grub when I eat, I manage to spill food and drinks al over me. White clothing + food + me don't go hand in hand. However, I'm thinking of wearing it tonight or possibly NYE.

Collars have been on my mind lately, so much so I'm thinking of doing a DIY collar project in the new year. Hopefully it turns out well.

Lomo Love: Pisa and Cinque Terra

Pisa
Cinque Terra: Riomaggiore

Pisa and Riomaggiore/ Cinque Terra, October 2009.

We stopped over in Pisa for a few hours, en route to Cinque Terra. Pisa, a university town. Rich in history and houses one of the most famous landmarks in the world. I remember it being stinking hot, coupled with our jumping shots in front of the leaning tower. We weren't in Pisa for long, as we needed to board a train for the epic and beautiful Cinque Terra. Riomaggiore, that was were we needed to go. But as language barriers have it, we were utterly lost. We hoped on the wrong train. The very nice ticket conductor saved us, and led us on our way.

Riomaggiore is one of the five coastal towns that make Cinque Terre. The others include Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia and Manarola. These towns are built on rugged steep cliffs, with beautiful coloured terraces over looking the ocean. It really is a site to see and I highly recommend going there. I felt like I was stuck in a time warp. There were no corporate fast food chains in site. All the towns had delicious local restaurants and produce. You can also hike to each town which is about 1-2hours long, if you take it slow. I recommend that you wear proper shoes as the area is quite rugged with steep descents and quite a bit of stairs to climb.

The photo above was taken at the highest look out point in Riomaggiore. It took my friends and I, 30 or so minutes to get up there. It was definitely worth it, as it over looked the remaining towns.

One memory I wont forget is watching a sea storm at night in Riomaggiore. The flashes of lightening out at  sea and the still summer air will stay with me forever.

All images shot by me.

PS you can have a look at more travel photos on my sisters blog: herehere and here.

Dear Photograph

Quite possibly the best tumblr I've seen to date, I can't stop looking through the archives, each photo and memory is unique, very creative and just damn beautiful.
I remember seeing this concept at a gallery I once visited, but instead of pictures, it was illustrations.

I take my hat off to the creator of Dear Photograph, you my friend are awesome.

Ovate: Nine Worlds 2011 Collection

These are my top favourites from OVATE. Perfect pieces for fall. I love the dark elements of the styling and design. The knit wear is what got me. The editorial is quite rad too, I might post them up later in the week also. Check them out: OVATE

Lomo Love: Holga Euro Trip

Love Wall

So, I've finally developed 22 rolls of film from my time living in London for a year and half + travelling around Europe in between. I know, it's taken me a while! So you'll be seeing a lot of Holga posts in the next weeks and possibly months. So to kick start this bad boy I leave you with an image from London, where my Euro journey started.

The Love Wall was situated on Exmouth Market, two blocks down from where I lived. Unfortunately it ceases to exist, as it was a construction site that locals converted to a wall of written love messages. My sister and I stumbled upon this little landmark on our weekly sojourns to get to know our new neighbourhood. Exmouth Market has daily food stalls, cute little kitch stores, fashion boutiques, a rad independent bookstore and one of the best tattoo parlours in town called The Family Business, where my room mate got his tattoos done. I miss my visits to this small laneway. It's one of those little gems that really make your day. I think we should start a 'Love Wall Revolution' and create more of these murals, who's in?

Minami Haynes: Halfwaycrook

I really love these photos by Minami Haynes of Halfwaycrook. A personal photo journal of what she and
her friends get up to in Hawaii. It's like flipping through a scrapbook you've found in a park, and not
wanting to hand it in to the owner, because the images are beautiful.

It's refreshing to see these types of images of Hawaii, not your cliche tourist trap pictures. But a raw
selection of life. These photos should be published in Monster Children magazine or even Vice.
