Your world???

(art work by Nate Reeves)

In the deepest and darkest recesses of our minds and hearts, this is where we store our true feelings and thoughts, our wildest dreams and true ambitions, our depressions and vices, our true loves and our true hates…. Our insecurities….
These feelings and thoughts may never be verbalised to another soul. These thoughts are ours. It may consume us.
These thoughts die with us.

Why don’t we share these intimate and personal thoughts?
Rejection?
Loss?

…..Fear?

Our mind is our world….. complex…poetic.. crazy to some, beautiful to others.
But is what they see merely a projection of what we want them to see?
Is it fake?

…..Real?

Mindanao.... Lock it in Eddie

In about three weeks I will be leaving home to fly back to PI for Gawad Kalinga.
I am excited yet scared at the same time. My sister and I tried to change regions, but it was confirmed yesterday that we are travelling with the Mindanao group. Apparently MNLF (Moro National Liberation Front) will be escorting us.
Tim, I reckon you’re screaming at your computer right now. But don’t worry we should be ok!

Like I said to my sister “God’s will”

Mara and I were having reservations about going to Mindanao; we tried to go to Luzon. I spoke to my Dad about it and he said we should be all right. He actually wants us to go down south; quote “I want you to experience living in fear”. Dead set, that’s what he said.
I’m pretty sure we’ll all be fine. GK wouldn’t allow going there if they didn’t think it was safe.

Diamonds are forever

I just watched Blood Diamond. Wow is all I can say. As you can tell I really enjoyed the movie. Leo did a really good job on the South African accent. I thought it was quite convincing.
After watching the movie, it makes me not want to buy diamond jewellery, but then again I actually wouldn’t buy them because I don’t like them to begin with. I’m not a huge fan of the ‘bling bling’.

When I look through all the jewellery catalogues I receive in the mail and when I walk past jewellery stores, I think to myself “I wonder if these are blood diamonds….. conflict diamonds”.
A couple of days ago there was a documentary on conflicts diamonds. I was really ignorant on how these precious gems were mined. I didn’t realise what type of working conditions individuals experienced while working in diamond mines.

There was one man, whose name escapes me, who was fighting for better working conditions for the African miners. What an angel. We need more people like him in the world. These miners would earn less than a dollar… and these diamonds would fetch up to $500 000 or more.
I really appreciated these two films; it opened my eyes to the ugly side of diamonds.
