10 lessons for young designers

1: Be authentic. The most powerful asset you have is your individuality, what makes you unique.
It's time to stop listening to others on what you should do.

2: Work harder than anyone else and you will always benefit from the effort.

3: Get off the computer and connect with real people and culture. Life is visceral.

4: Constantly improve your craft. Make things with your hands. Innovation in thinking is not enough.

5: Travel as much as you can. It is a humbling and inspiring experience to learn just how much you 
don't know.

6: Being original is still king, especially in this tech-driven, group-grope world.

7: Try not to work for stupid people or you'll soon become one of them.

8: Instinct and intuition are all-powerful. Learn to trust them.

9: The Golden Rule actually works. Do good.

10: If all else fails, No. 2 is the greatest competitive advantage of any career.

Seal Rocks

So my dreams finally came true, impromptu road trip. A 3 hour drive to Seal Rocks turned into 7 hours.
Getting lost is frustrating, however you end up finding little gem towns and National Park areas
you'd normally not go to. And there's always the alphabet game you can play to make time
go by faster.
We looked so stupid trying to pitch Tim's new tent, it doesn't help when there is no manual. But we
got it in the end.
The weekend consisted of chilling out, playing Uno and eating a lot of BBQ and junk food.
I forgot how beautiful Australia is; vast bush land and the most amazing beaches up the northern coast.
I really can't wait for the next camping trip.

maybe who you are tomorrow will
be better than who I am today.

Galaxy Nerds

The quote in the first image is very true. There are days where I'm ungrateful. As
each birthday passes, there are times I think "damn I'm old".

'Do not regret growing older. It is a privilege denied to many'


Then I think of my cousin, who passed away 12 years ago when I was 16. She was only
21. It's weird that I've surpassed her by 6 years and she'll be forever 21. I regret not seeing
her grow older, because life really is a privilege denied to many.

Wednesday Addams

Beautiful images.

When I was a wee child I wanted to be Christina Ricci's character, Wednesday Addams.

I thought she was the coolest. Dark, sarcastic, no emotion. Actually, it sounds like me a

bit. I loved the the scene in Addams Family Values, where Wednesday plays Pocahontas

in the summer camp play, and basically ruins it. Classic.

Off tangent. The first image reminds me of graffiti artist Pure Evil's 'Joker' piece.

I first saw it in a gallery in Sydney and then at the Pure Evil gallery in London when I was

living there. It's the most amazing piece, 6 feet by 4 feet. when your up close it looks like

rainbow paint dribble and you can't really tell what it is. The further you stand back the

clearer the image is. Amazing. One day I'll buy that piece. Unless of course Pure Evil sends

it to me as a gift. *Wink wink, nudge nudge*
